Choosing The Right Products For Your Frizzy Hair

Frizzy hair can be frustrating and difficult to deal with. Wouldn’t it be marvellous to have products for frizzy hair that work really well and actually transform your frizz bomb into sleek and shiny tresses instantly? Wouldn’t it be even better if your smoothed and de frizzed hair actually stayed that way and did not re-frizz as soon as there is a little humidity in the air? Well the good news is that it is possible to achieve lasting smooth results with the right products and a little know how!

First off let’s examine why you have frizzy hair ….

Frizz is actually caused by hair that is starved of essential moisture and suffering from friction. The frizzles can happen to any hair type … curly, wavy or straight, greasy, normal or dry. The ends are the most affected and driest and curly hair is more prone to frizz than any other hair type.

Usually frizzy hair occurs due to bad treatment… such as …. Hair dyes, highlights, heat from straighteners and hair driers, heated rollers, chemicals from swimming pools, permanent waves, styling products, too frequent washing, rough treatment with poor quality combs and brushes, central heating, air conditioning and even genetics …… all these things are contributing factors in the hair horrors list and why the odds are stacked against hair leaving it parched and fluffy!

Whilst we can minimise some of these harmful practices, it is impossible to avoid or change most of them due to the demands on our busy modern lives, current fashions and the environment.

Get Moisture Inside ….

Treating frizzy hair is a matter of introducing moisture into the hair shaft in a multi layered approach. This ensures moisture stays in the hair once it is absorbed.

Begin your treatment by having a good cut or trim at a salon. This will remove the worst affected dry or split-ends. The cuticles(scales) of the hair shaft are always the most raised at the ends and hard to smooth down or fill with moisture efficiently. Just a light trim is the minimum that should be cut but more is better!

avocado balmA moisturizing shampoo and conditioner for dry and/or damaged hair should be used for every wash and once a week a deep conditioning treatment or mask should be applied. If your hair has been colored or highlights added, then use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner for colored hair, to slow down color fade.

When you visit a hair salon for trims and restyles, request a deep conditioning treatment as well. Try to aim for every 6 to 8 weeks.

If you cannot afford salon treatments or just don’t have time, once a month smother your hair in a thick treatment oil or homemade mashed avocado and mayonnaise  balm and leave it in all day. If possible wash out and let dry naturally.

Leaving hair to dry naturally is very beneficial to the health of your hair. However, it is totally impractical for most of us so keeping to a good anti frizz routine is the only option.

Ensure your drier is set to warm or cool. Blow air down the hair shaft rather than up. Always cool hair on the cool setting at the end of drying.

Use specialist products for frizzy hair when drying. These are serums and heat styling balms, mouses and lotions. Some good ones to try are

One Hundred Strokes A Day Keeps The Frizz At Bay …

Brush hair often with a very good quality clean brush and comb. Be very gentle de-tangling wet hair as it is very weak when wet. Natural bristle hair brushes and wide toothed smooth plastic combs are best. Brushing dry hair distributes natural oils from the scalp to the ends. Spend some minutes brushing hair gently before bedtime. Your scalp will be invigorated aiding blood flow to the roots, oils will be dispersed and your head will feel wonderfully tingly.

Treat very stubborn dry ends with some serum. Serums are silicone based and can feel heavy and greasy so use a tiny amount on the ends only and rub in well.

Eat and Drink The Right Stuff ….

Diet is also important. Drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated and ensure you eat plenty of vitamin rich foods for a boost to your hair, skin and nail health. Supplements are a second best option, but fresh is best. Juicing your own juice is a superb way to ensure you are getting the freshest possible nutrients. Your body and hair will thank you for it!

We cannot change genetics and it follows that if your parents have frizzy hair, you will be more likely to have the dryness and frizz they experience. However there is a lot more information and very good products designed to alleviate your problem than there has ever been before and we should take advantage if that fact.

Following the steps outlined above will ensure your hair has a lot more moisture inside the shaft and the cuticles will be as flattened as possible. There is no reason to have hair frizz up in humid or damp conditions if you care for it properly and apply a protective finishing layer as well.
